In many ways they can be best thought of as MFIOL “lite”. Less unwanted visual effects but less reading. You would usually have good driving vision and good vision for seeing larger print of a newspaper, perhaps your phone, and doing some shopping without glasses. For reading you would likely need glasses. Again EDOFs use a variety of optical theories to achieve their goal.
