About Lens Types

It is a common misunderstanding that cataracts are “scraped” off. This is incorrect. Cataract is when a focusing lens inside your eye, located behind your pupil, goes from clear to cloudy.

Monofocal IOLs

Mono meaning one, means these IOLs are in focus in one place only.

Toric IOLs

Many patients think their astigmatism cannot be corrected at the time of lens surgery, and they will have to continue to wear astigmatic or “toric” spectacles lenses. In fact astigmatism can be compensated for, to reduce the need for “toric” spectacles by implanting a toric IOL. Most IOL types are available as a toric IOL.

Monovision

Monovision sets one eye in focus for distance and your other eye in focus near for reading.

Multifocal IOLs (MFIOLs)

As the name suggests, multifocal IOLs focus your eye at multiple distances from your eye, in contrast to monofocal IOLs which are in focus at one distance from your eye only.

Extended Depth Of Focus (EDOF) IOLs

These IOLs provide a level of distance and intermediate vision but not near vision.
